LOADING AND UNLOADING ZONE – WHAT IS IT?
Loading or unloading zones are areas designated for commercial vehicles. These areas are used for the purpose of receiving, shipping, and transporting goods, wares and commodities and are located near commercial buildings. These parking stalls are permanently reserved free of charge for freight vehicles for the time strictly necessary to carry out loading and unloading operations.
Loading or unloading area:
- Shall be indicated by yellow lines
- Shall have the appropriate symbol painted on the ground
- Must have enough space to allow the vehicle door to be opened and to manoeuvre.
LOADING AND UNLOADING AREA – WHY YOU SHOULD REQUEST IT
A loading or unloading area is very useful for commercial activities, retailers, businesses and companies who want to ensure that they can perform such operations without impeding the flow of traffic.
LOADING AND UNLOADING AREA – HOW TO REQUEST IT
In order to create a loading zone, the area should not obstruct the traffic.
Here are the 4 steps of the process:
- Submit the request
- Inspection carried out by the city council.
- Issuing of the permission
- Creation of the loading zone.
You must submit your request to the city council that is going to carry out an inspection to verify if it is possible to create a loading zone. After that, they are going to decide where to place this area. This zone shall be marked by yellow painted stripes along the entire perimeter and the appropriate road sign.
A permission will eventually be issued and after that the construction of the stall can be done.
The permission takes 30 days to be issued, but for bigger cities such as Rome or Milan it could take longer.
